Prof. Niane was West Africa Regional Director Zone II of the African Mathematics Millennium Science Initiative (AMMSI). He was also Vice-President of the Assembly of the Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis (Senegal) and Director of the Training and Research Unit of Applied Sciences and Technology (UFR SAT) formerly UFR of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science.
He is a founding member and Board member of the Senegal Academy of Science and Technology of Senegal. He was a member of the Executive Board of the African Mathematical Union (AMU). He chaired the Jury of the Grand Prix of the President of the Republic of Senegal for Science, 2002 session.
Prof. Mary Teuw Niane was bestowed Chevalier dans l’Ordre National du Lion of the Republic of Senegal{Knight in the National Order of the Lion of Senegal} and Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes académiques from France { Knight in the Order of Academic Palms of France.
